Fiber arts

At first Rici wanted to call this page “I have this thing with thread“, unsure though if readers would understand what it’s about. It’s about everything thread, floss or yarn.

Knitting and crochet skills come from childhood for Rici, the first one from her grandmother, the second one from her mother. Well, her mother is still the master-crocheter of the family.

Weaving is a connected skill that Rici wanted to develop by herself. It’s linked to historical reenactment and archeological researches about ancient textiles and gowns.

A special craft is lucetting: Rici is getting more and more involved with the lucet, both mastering the craft and researching its history.

Find the learning journey, the resources, the projects related to textile making in various forms.

The lucet

Well known for its use in historical reenactment, the lucet is an ancient tool used to make cords and braids by hand. It’s versatile also for modern projects involving I-cords.

The history of the lucet is still quite controversial: you can read more about it on the book that Rici wrote with Daniel Phelps, “The Lucet Compendium”.

Here you can find project ideas, with tutorials to help you make them, and insights about the lucet, its use in reenactment, related events and more.
