#LRCrafts: DIY Passion

If you can think it, you can make it

Welcome to #LRCraftsLocutus & Rici Crafts!

We’re Locutus and Rici, a husband-and-wife team from Italy who love making things with our hands. What started as a place to document our own DIY projects has grown into a resource for crafters around the world.

Today, #LRCrafts combines creative projects with practical tools, historical research, tutorials and reference resources. Our goal is to share what we’ve learned so others can create with confidence. Here you can search for inspiration for your next project, research information on vintage sewing machines, learn the lucet, look for embroidery shops while travelling, and more.

How it all started

When we met thanks to Irish dance, it didn’t take long to realize how much we had in common: our outlook on life, a love for archery and historical reenactment, and – of course – a passion for crafting.

Together, we make all sorts of things: home decor, furniture, clothing, tools, sculptures, dioramas, and more. Some crafts we work on as a team, mastering the same techniques, while others are a specialty of one of us. We like to blend our skills both into multi-material pair projects and individual creations.

Why this website?

We believe knowledge becomes more valuable when it’s shared. Every project teaches us something new, and every piece of research opens the door to another question. #LRCrafts is our way of collecting those experiences, to make it easier for other crafters to learn, experiment and discover, as we document our own journey.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Practical tutorials and downloadable resources.
  • Historical research into traditional crafts and vintage sewing machines.
  • Long-term reference projects, including searchable databases and directories.
  • Behind-the-scenes stories from our own creative projects.
  • Travel tips for fellow crafters

If there’s something you’d love to see here, drop a comment or reach out to us. We’d love to hear from you!

About tips

What you'll find on #LRCrafts

We decided to build a website where we could share not only our projects, but also the tools, guides and research we wished we’d had ourselves.

We like to blend our skills both into multi-material pair projects and individual creations: our resources and crafts are the result of two people with different backgrounds creating together.

Here’s why here you’ll find:

  • Textile crafts
  • Vintage sewing machines
  • Guides and tutorials
  • Craft travel suggestions
  • Historical research
  • DIY projects

About Locutus

Locutus is a wonderful crafter and also a talented engineer, so you’ll find his technical signature in many a project.

He enjoys designing solutions, restoring old objects, crafting with wood, bringing technical ideas to life. Whenever a project needs electronics, structural planning or a clever mechanical solution, it’s usually his domain.

He loves keeping himself occupied, busy with his hands and mind: you’ll never find him idle. He always finds a way to repair what’s broken, adapt what’s not good enough, perfect what he can. His main skill is finding easy solutions for complex problems.

About Rici

Rici is the pen behind #LRCrafts. Yes, even now, so I could stop speaking in the third person.

I’m a front-end developer for a living (a job I love), but I also have a degree in archaeology, and for years I worked for museums and digs. It’s actually this dual nature of mine that inspired projects such as my book about the history of the lucet or the searchable database of vintage Singer sewing machine serial numbers.

I’m particularly passionate about fiber art crafts such as lucet, embroidery and string art, but I love experimenting new techniques shoulder to shoulder with my husband. I’m good at crafts requiring patience, careful refinishing, cleaning and perfecting details.
