#LRCrafts: DIY Passion

If you can think it, you can make it

Welcome to #LRCrafts!

We are Locutus and Rici, a husband-and-wife duo passionate about all things DIY. That’s how #LRCrafts Locutus & Rici Crafts — was born in March 2021.

Our blog is a place to share the projects we create using a wide range of techniques and materials: from string art to embroidery, from handmade lamps to sewing, from woodworking to book art, from cement crafts to resin dioramas.

How it all started

We met in December 2014 during an event by Gens d’Ys Irish Dance Academy, and it didn’t take long to realize how much we had in common: our outlook on life, Irish dance (which brought us together), a love for archery and historical reenactment, and – of course – a passion for crafting.

Together, we make all sorts of things: home decor, furniture, clothing, tools, sculptures, dioramas, and more. Some crafts we work on as a team, mastering the same techniques, while others are a specialty of one of us. We like to blend our skills both into multi-material pair projects and individual creations.

Why this website?

After sharing our projects and behind-the-scenes glimpses on Instagram for a couple of years, we decided to take things further with a proper blog.
Here, you’ll find:

  • In-depth making-of stories to ispire other makers
  • A complete gallery of our projects, organized by technique
  • Step-by-step tutorials and resources to help you craft your own creations
  • Travel tips for fellow crafters
  • Special long-term projects, such as a worldwide list of embroidery shops or a searchable database of vintage Singer sewing machine serial numbers

If there’s something you’d love to see here, drop a comment on our posts or reach out to us. We’d love to hear from you!

About tips

About Locutus

Locutus is not just a wonderful crafter, but also a talented engineer, so you’ll find his technical signature in many a project. Any electrical feature in a piece? You can be sure he handled it! Book lamps, string art pieces with LEDs, any kind of lighting is a feature of his own.

He loves keeping himself occupied, busy with his hands and mind. You’ll never find him idle: he’s always able to find something to do. Also, Locutus doesn’t like when things do not work properly. So he always finds a way to repair what’s broken, adapt what’s not good enough, perfect what he can.

He’s a very good sculptor. Those were his main DIY projects before meeting Rici. He works primarily with wood and alabaster, making wonderful things: a wooden mountain boot that seems real, alabaster pendants, pieces of furniture…

As the grandson of seamstresses, he’s also good with the sewing machine: he’s the director of our sewing projects for which my stitching skills are not enough.

Of his qualities, what is most useful in DIY is his inclination for careful planning and also his ability to find easy solutions for complex problems.

About Rici

Rici is the pen behind #LRCrafts.

Yes, even now, so I could stop speaking in the third person.

I’ve been fond of writing and reading since an early age, and now I’m the webdesigner, copywriter and social manager of the couple.
The nickname Rici comes from childhood, invented by a friend who was kindly mocking my rebel blonde curls.

I’m a front-end developer for a living, a job I love, but I also have a degree in archaeology, and for years I worked for museums and digs. It’s actually this dual nature of mine that ispired projects such as my book about the history of the lucet or the searchable database of vintage Singer sewing machine serial numbers.

I’m an Irish Dancer. I’ve had this passion all of my life, but I’ve been able to begin dancing only in my late twenties. Now I share my passion with wonderful friends and my lovely husband. Actually, we met during the lessons we were both attending at “Gens d’YS” academy in Milan!

Now we share our lives, our dance and our crafting passion.

I’m particularly passionate about embroidery and string art, but I love experimenting new techniques shoulder to shoulder with my husband. There’s always a part in each project where I can be useful, mainly with those tasks requiring a great patience. I’m good at carefully refinishing, cleaning and perfecting details when my husband’s patience fails.
