The right fabric can really make a huge difference to the outcome of embroidery projects. Find the fabric shop that is able to guide you in your choice.

Remember to check the thread count that suits your technique (the number of threads per square inch/cm): the lower the count, the looser the fabric weave (and the easier to pull your needle through).
