Acanthus was one of the earliest decal patterns used on Singer Model 12 sewing machines. The expert collector Gary Kleiner identified three main versions.
The first Acanthus design, in use around 1878–1879, was without the Singer name on the front of the arm.
Around 1880–1884, the second iteration added the Singer name on the front of the arm.
The later version, called Dotted Acanthus, was a revised design, in use around 1884–1890. It's distinguished by small decorative dots added throughout the pattern. This is the most commonly encountered Acanthus variant today.
