The name of this decal comes from the ISMACS history of the Improved Family model.
Here they say that this machine, as it was launched in 1879, was only available as a treadle machine. They also state that it was probably the last Singer machine to be made with 'mother-of-pearl' inlays, like this ornate decoration.
